To whom should I write?

The elected official you write to depends on what your topic is. State and local matters should be directed at one of your PA lawmakers, while matters of national concern should be directed to a member of the US Congress.

State Lawmakers:
  • Representative John McGinnis
  • Senator John Eichelberger

Members of Congress:
  • US Representative Bill Shuster
  • US Senator Bob Casey, Jr.
  • US Senator Pat Toomey


Outline for creating your letter:

  1. Introduce yourself
  2. Explain the issue/topic and why it's important to you
  3. Provide your plan of action - what will the law look like?
  4. Give anecdotal and factual reasons to support why your proposed law should be passed
  5. Thank the lawmaker and make a final plea for the law to be passed

Due Date:

  • February 6, 2017 at the beginning of the period.
