Chapters 10-12 - Legislative Branch

The legislative branch is the cornerstone of our representative democracy in the US. The officials we elect at the national level in the House of Representatives and Senate are the ones responsible for passing the laws that affect our daily lives. In this chapter, we're going to look at how a bill becomes a law as well as the qualifications to be a representative or senator. In addition, we'll take a look at the roles of committees in Congress, leadership in both houses, and the powers vested in the legislative branch under Article I of the US Constitution. Finally, we'll attempt to examine why the approval rating of Congress is only 12% despite its profound influence on the policy-making in our country.
