Chapter 09 - Interest Groups and Lobbying
Who determines what laws get passed? Well, it's the people, obviously. But who exactly influences the passing of laws? There are numerous interest groups who try to get certain agendas passed. There are environmental groups, pro-gun groups, anti-gun groups, groups who promote education, groups who promote restrictions on video games, and literally thousands of others. The people they hire to influence lawmakers to pass (or not pass) laws are known as lobbyists. This chapter's going to examine the role of interest groups and lobbyists in the lawmaking process and how influential they are. We'll also take a look at how people and interest groups contribute money to political campaigns, which, as you'll see, is an astonishing amount of dough!
